Provincial funding through a 2022 grant program will have a positive impact on Lambton County's budget.
The Ontario government is investing $22 million to help 14 municipalities across Lambton-Kent-Middlesex for municipal infrastructure projects.
Through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), the County of Lambton has received $2,270,403.
Lambton County General Manager of Infrastructure and Development Jason Cole said the funding amount is double what the county was expecting.
"The OCIF is a fantastic program that the province has put forward to provide sustainable long-term funding for municipalities," said Cole. "This is the type of funding program that really helps municipalities to succeed in their infrastructure goals."
Cole said the county is currently in its budget process so the provincial funding will help with its infrastructure renewal program and eliminate some of the infrastructure backlogs.
"Our capital program this year had a very heavy road and infrastructure component to it and that money will certainly be helping to offset some of the levy money that we were planning to spend anyway this year," he said.
The county's budget deliberations are scheduled to begin in March.
Other nearby communities which will benefit from the OCIF can be found in the list below. The provincial government said the funding for Lambton Shores will help the reconstruction of Ravenswood Line and sewer projects on Ontario Street.
