Renovations set to continue at Forest Library

The second phase of an extensive renovation project at the Forest Library is scheduled to begin on February 5.

The library will be closed for about three and a half weeks, with the targeted reopening date of March 1.

Lambton County Manager of Library Services Darlene Coke said the project cost is just under $60,000.

"We are looking at placing new shelving throughout the library and we'll be looking at replacing the flooring in the library," said Coke. "We'll be relocating the service desk and the public computer workstations. We'll also be getting a new service desk for that location."

Coke said the deadline to return library materials has been extended until after the facility re-opens. You can also return those materials to other branches, if need be.

The first phase, which was completed in October 2021, included the creation of a new meeting room, levelling the floor in the children’s area, new carpet and baseboards in the children’s area, the addition of power and data outlets, and updated paint.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to visit one of the county's nearby locations, which include Watford, Thedford, Arkona, Camlachie, and Wyoming.

They can also access eLibrary services from the comfort of their own homes.

Coke said they have some other work planned this year.

"We're looking in 2022 to also complete a project at the Petrolia Library," she said. "We continue to make ongoing improvements to examine our space at the downtown Sarnia location. The other remaining project for this year is working with the City of Sarnia on the location at Clearwater Arena with the future of the Mall Road Library."

Upgrades in Petrolia will include new shelving in the children's section, the relocation of the public computer work station and service desk, and the creation of a new service desk.
