The City of Sarnia declared a significant weather event Wednesday due to substantial snow accumulation and ice formation on roadways and sidewalks.
The city's public works department is armed with 17 large plows to clear over 500 kilometres of roadway, as well several trucks and ATVs, and five sidewalk plows.
Along with the plows, sanders and salters will be busy as the region can expect up to 30 centimetres of snow by Thursday morning.
Public Works Manager Tony D'Agostini said there are a couple of key areas they'll be dealing with first.
"Our main priorities are arterial roads, bus routes and emergency routes," said D'Agostini. "We ask motorists not to park on the roadway and not deposit any snow on the roadway as well. Be patient with us, we will get to your area."
A snow fall warning for Sarnia-Lambton ended shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday. A winter weather travel advisory was issued and Environment Canada said snow is forecast to redevelop near noon Thursday. Additional snowfall amounts of 4 to 8 centimetres is possible. Visibility may be reduced in local blowing snow.
Motorists are urged to take their time and be careful on area roadways.
Environment Canada ended a weather advisory Thursday at around 10:45 a.m.
