The president of the Sarnia-Lambton Real Estate Board is confident we'll see more significant progress on the former Holmes Foundry site this year.
Rob Longo said they're working with a potential buyer for the 16-acre property at Christina and Exmouth Streets.
It's actively listed for sale by Point Edward Gateway Inc. for $7-million.
"We have seen some interest in it and we're very hopeful that 2022 is going to bring hopefully the culmination of a lot of years of hard work on the site and that we can actually see some significant, positive announcements for the community."
Longo couldn't say what the potential buyer was eyeing the site for, but noted it will be good news for the community once there's a transformation.
"The buildings have been removed, and a lot of trees and debris has been cleaned up," he said. "It's a nice, wide open and clean site now. That's obviously a lot better for the community and the neighbours. It looks a lot better and obviously it helps us with the marketing aspect of things."
The site is currently zoned for commercial use.
A conditional offer from an unnamed buyer in July 2019 never materialized.
Chrysler closed the former engine block manufacturing site in 1988 and spent $7-million cleaning up the land before selling it in 1989 to the D’Andrea Group.
