With the finish line fast approaching, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way is making a push for donations.
So far, the annual fundraising effort has raised $1.3 million or 74 percent of the $1.75 million goal.
Executive Director Dave Brown said if they fall short of their target, funding cuts may be necessary.
"We are near the final stages of identifying how much we'll be funding which agencies beginning April 1, 2022," said Brown. "We'll take into account two factors, those agencies that are most in need and of course how much money we have available. So the more money we have available, the less of those kinds of cuts we'll have to make."
Brown said this year's campaign has placed a focus on raising funds in three key areas, All That Kids Can Be, Healthy People Strong Communities and From Poverty to Possibility.
"The pandemic has had a huge effect on those folks who are at or near what we would call the poverty line," he said. "We're anticipating that those needs are going to be here long after COVID-19, and of course now we're seeing higher than normal inflation, which is affecting that group and agencies even more."
The United Way currently funds 20 local agencies providing 40 programs and services.
