Spike in COVID cases, two more outbreaks reported

Lambton Public Health reported a spike in COVID-19 cases Friday.

The health unit reported 27 new confirmed infections, and nine resolved cases, increasing the active case count by 18 to 80.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 there have been 4,048 cases locally, of which 3,898 have been deemed resolved. The death toll is unchanged at 70.

There are five outbreaks, up two since Thursday. The health unit has declared outbreaks at Cathcart Boulevard Public School and at Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School. Fewer than five cases are linked to each incident.

Bluewater Health has five COVID-positive patients in hospital.
