McHappy Day a success despite poor weather

Despite Wednesday's wet and windy weather, the Sarnia-Lambton community once again showed its generosity during McDonald's annual McHappy Day.

In Sarnia, $12,296 was raised in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and just under $4,100 went to the Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario.

Owner-Operator Colleen Buckley is thrilled with the response.

"Considering the weather, I think it was a successful day," said Buckley. "It didn't seem to stop people from coming out and supporting the day. Overall, I'm really happy considering all of the different challenges that came our way. Unfortunately, we couldn't invite guests and it was in a different month than usual, but we're really pleased."

The recently-opened Petrolia location brought in $3,694 for CEE Hospital, and another $1,200 for Ronald McDonald House.

Buckley said their next big fundraiser will be around Christmas time, in support of the Salvation Army.

She expects next year's McHappy Day to be held in May, as it has been in previous years.
