Lambton College is prepared to support students who are victims of sexual violence or harassment.
Communications Director Diana Forbes said they've recently created a sexual assault prevention ambassador position to assist students at the campus.
She said students are strongly encouraged to report incidents, but they do not need to file a report or formal complaint to receive support.
"We have a wide range of student support services that are available to survivors who experience sexual violence," Forbes said. "Counselling, legal consultation and access to community resources. We're in a very proactive state about that. All of our students are fully aware of our policy and protocols. There's a training session in orientation."
Forbes said staff receive bystander prevention training, and prevention and awareness campaigns are held on campus.
"Emergency distress stations are located all across campus, inside and out. We have 24/7 security services, as well as a 24/7 contact support person for those living in residence."
Forbes said Lambton College reviewed its sexual assault reporting procedures and policies in 2020 and will continue to amend it.
The Ontario government announced changes September 16 that will make reporting sexual violence easier for post-secondary students.
Students reporting a sexual assault cannot be asked about their sexual history or sexual expression or be reprimanded for any drug or alcohol use in violation of the institution’s policies at the time the incident took place.
London police are investigating reports of alleged sexual violence at Western University and Fanshawe College.
