Pedestrian involved in fatal collision remembered for his compassion

A proud father of two, remembered for his caring heart and love of music and sports, has been identified as the pedestrian involved in a fatal collision on Tashmoo Avenue in Sarnia.

Officers were called about a collision, just south of Churchill Road, around 10:10 p.m. August 20.

Police identified the pedestrian on Wednesday as 37-year-old Joel Burton Williams, a resident of Sarnia.

Aamjiwnaang First Nation Administration and Council expressed condolences to Williams' family over social media.

An obituary posted to the Smith Funeral Home website read that Williams had a passion for sports and enjoyed going to Sarnia Sting games with his family.

"He had the kindest heart, was apologetic, encouraging [and] boy, did he love to laugh," read the obituary. "He'll be remembered by [friends and family] for his big caring heart, compassion [and] his cheesy one liners that were sure to bring a smile to your face."

Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home on August 28. A private funeral service will be held.

Members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch and Traffic Unit are still investigating the matter.
