Broadband service expanding in north Lambton

Construction of $1.7 million in broadband infrastructure is underway in north Lambton.

The work is expected to provide reliable internet access to more homes and businesses in the communities of Thedford, Springvale, Jericho and Jura.

“Today’s investment is another step towards fulfilling our government’s promise of making high speed internet accessible for all,” said Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP and Ontario's Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton. “This project will connect families, farmers, and shopkeepers to a world of opportunities online. From instant communication to making collaborations at work easier, the internet is a tool that helps make life better for everyone.”

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The update was provided when dignitaries gathered Wednesday to mark the completion of a new $2.6 million fibre-optic network in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation that is servicing over 1,000 homes and businesses.

The contracts to expand fibre-optic broadband services were awarded by Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc, a not-for-profit corporation initiated by local municipalities to address connectivity in Southwestern Ontario.
