The first part of a two phase approach to dredging has been completed in Cow Creek.
The waterway, commonly known as Perch Creek, had been mostly blocked by sand since December.
Sarnia Construction Manager Rob Williams said minor dredging was completed at the beginning of July.
Van Bree Drainage and Bulldozing dug two metres of material out of the channel.
Williams said the waterway is now clear for boating traffic and creek users to use this summer.
He said a fence was put around the removed sediment, until permits are received to dispose of the sand and gravel.
The city is planning to put the material back into the water for beach nourishment.
Full dredging is expected to commence once permits are received and fish spawning season has ended.
