A house fire in Sarnia Monday evening has been deemed accidental.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue were called at about 6:50 p.m., after smoke was seen coming from a home in the 600 block of Elizabeth Avenue.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the unit of origin, and prevented the fire from extending to the rest of the house which is currently undergoing renovations.
Public Education Officer Mike Otis said the fire was electrical in nature and nobody was home at the time. No injuries were reported.
Otis said fire damage was minimal and an estimate was not immediately available.
Sarnia Fire Rescue is reminding residents to never run extension cords under rugs or anything that can damage them.
Extension cords are meant for temporary use and never for heavy duty appliances, and should be replaced immediately when damaged.
