Installing new traffic lights along Cathcart Boulevard, at Indian and Murphy, is being investigated.
Janette Riddell, who has lived near Cathcart and Indian most of her life, asked council to consider the measures Monday, saying she sustained several injuries, including a brain injury, in a crash at the intersection last October.
Riddell also said she is haunted by the death of 10-year-old Jillian Keck, who was struck by a vehicle at Cathcart and Murphy Road, in 2013.
Councillor Bill Dennis supported the call.
"Anyone that lives in this city, anyone particularly that lives in that area of town, knows both those intersections are very busy and very dangerous," said Dennis.
"What's it going to take?" he asked. "Some other child to get killed? Or an individual? Or someone to get seriously hurt?"
Councillor George Vandenberg, who shared that he lives in the area, agrees that something needs to be done.
"I've almost been run over in that intersection as I walked through that area," said Vandenberg.
Sarnia council has directed staff to conduct a traffic study and assessment and report back on the possibility of new lights, or other options like a roundabout, at the intersections of Cathcart and Indian Road and Cathcart and Murphy Road.
