Sarnia police hoping for peaceful Canada Day

It will be a quieter Canada Day than Sarnia residents may be used to.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no celebrations at Canatara Park or fireworks at dusk.

Sarnia Police Cst. John Sottosanti said despite the fact that there are no large organized events, they expect the parks will be busy, and will be making sure everyone is being responsible.

"And not just Canatara, but other parks around the city to ensure that people can go out with their families and friends and have a great time, and not have a negative experience such as people fighting in front of them or anything of that nature," said Sottosanti. "So, that will be everywhere from the Cove, all the way down the beach and throughout the park, and any other park that we find there's increased activity."

Residents are reminded that under the new provincial regulations, outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people, five people indoors.

Individuals who violate restrictions included in the Reopening Ontario Act can face fines ranging from $750 to $100,000.
