The Sarnia Brigade baseball team is getting geared up for a new season, as Ontario enters Phase 2 of reopening Wednesday.
The change means the club can begin play, with no restrictions on who they face, and with a reduced 25 per cent capacity for fans.
Coach Joel Ainsworth has a couple of goals for the coming year.
"Number one, like everyone, is to get back to baseball and shake off some rust, just get back into the swing of things," said Ainsworth. "Number two, we want to defend our 2019 AAA senior championship. That's our goal, to win what they're calling 'August Madness'."
Ainsworth expects the shortened schedule to kick off in the next few weeks.
"We're just really enthusiastic and excited," he said. "We have five new roster spots filled, and we have a great core of veterans. All of our key contributors and teammates are returning back this season."
He said they'll have a good mix of veterans and new players on the squad.
He's looking forward to welcoming guys like Mitch Bigras, Tyler Whitbread, Jack Symington, and Nick George who played at William Penn University in Iowa.
This will be the Brigade's first campaign under a new name, after scrapping the 'Braves' moniker following 65 seasons.
