First ever Blue Coast Walleye Challenge underway

The Carpenters' Local 1256 Blue Coast Walleye Challenge kicked off Friday.

Because of pandemic restrictions, the tournament is using a mobile app called MyCatch to create a COVID safe environment, allowing participating anglers to snap a photo of their catch on a measuring device.

The mobile app also tracks real time data about catch rates and species distribution, assisting fisheries biologists in collecting data from area lakes and rivers.

The walleye tournament, which runs until June 13, is being held on the St. Clair River and Lake Huron within Sarnia-Lambton boundaries.

The prize board will be determined by the number of anglers that register at www.AnglersAtlas.com.

Money raised from the event will support the Bluewater Anglers hatchery operations and conservation initiatives.
