The local tourism industry has reason to be optimistic heading into the summer according to the CEO of the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce.
Allan Calvert said the Grand Bend area could soon be welcoming travelers from across Ontario.
"When I speak to tour operators in the Grand Bend area, they are taking reservations, potentially they could be packed all summer," he said. "So if Grand Bend fills up, these travellers -- the vast majority of us will have at least a vaccination -- they will make their way down the coast of Lake Huron, and believe me, we will see them in our community."

Calvert said at the end of the day, we're going to be alright.
"It's going to work to our favour. We have a vast majority of this population that can't wait to get out, they can't wait to do a little bit of travelling. If they can jump in their car and drive a mere three hours and feel like they're in paradise, we have paradise for them."
Earlier this month, Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber told Blackburn News COVID-19 guidelines are being followed now and will continue to be followed Victoria Day weekend, May 22 to 24.
Weber said they feel the beach needs to be open so people can get out and get fresh air, as long as they do it safely.
