Golf courses in Sarnia-Lambton are expected to be busy over the May long weekend, following the province's reopening announcement.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that as of May 22, outdoor facilities like golf courses and tennis courts would be allowed to reopen.
Head Golf Professional at Sarnia Golf and Curling Club Jamie Parkinson, said they're very pleased with the announcement and are in the process of getting ready. He said COVID-19 safety measures that were in place prior to the latest lockdown will remain in place.
"Golf [courses] had a good opportunity to get all of the safety measures in place last season thankfully and we'll continue with those," he said.
Parkinson said the Victoria Day long weekend isn't typically busy but he expects that to change this year.
"At our club, the holiday weekends are usually the quieter weekends but [I'm] not expecting that to be the case for this year," he said. "We will be offering tee times from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and based on the response from the membership at this point, it looks like we'll be full all day."
Like many businesses, Parkinson said the club has been affected by provincial restrictions so the club has been eagerly awaiting to welcome back staff and begin operations again.
