It's been a frosty month of May so far.
Environment Canada issued another frost advisory for Tuesday night in Sarnia-Lambton.
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson said our weather pattern this month has been dominated by cold air.
"A cold dome of air has been sitting over much of the province, and it's been very stubborn and difficult to move," said Coulson. "What that's resulted in is a very unsettled situation. During the daylight hours, we see clouds pop up and some shower activity occur. As the day wears on and the sun sets, the skies clear and the winds drop off and become much lighter. That gives us prime conditions for frost formation."
The temperature is expected to drop to around 1 C, 34 F, again Tuesday night.
Coulson said the prolonged cold snap has been unfortunate for those who got a head start on their gardens this year.
"You really want to leave your sensitive plants going into the ground until after the May 2-4 weekend," he said. "That long weekend in May usually brings about a longer term trend toward those warmer overnight temperatures that make it safer to plant those sensitive plants."
Coulson said the stubborn dome of cold air is about to lose its grip with a return to seasonal temperatures of around 20 C, 68 F, forecast by the weekend and warmer than normal temperatures next week.
