It's no joke -- snow is in the forecast for April Fool's Day in Sarnia-Lambton.
Environment Canada is tracking a system moving across southwestern Ontario that will bring snow, strong winds and unseasonably cold temperatures starting Wednesday evening.
Meteorologist Mark Schuster said it looks like there could be some lake-effect snow developing.
"The good news is though, that any of the pockets of heavier snow should move through fairly quickly, so we don't expect the accumulations to be overly high, maybe just a couple centimetres tonight," said Schuster. "It might be hard-pressed to even get five centimetres [Thursday]. It's going to be more the abrupt changes of the weather and the sudden reduced visibility that's going to be more of the hazard with this."
Schuster said Thursday will also be very cool.
"Off of Lake Huron, especially into Lambton county just south of the lake with the cold north winds, it looks like there could be on and off flurries through much of the day. Very cold -- the temperature is likely not going to make it above the freezing mark."
The forecast is calling for a high of -1 C, 30 F, Thursday, along with a wind-chill of -14 C.
Schuster said the weather could also cause problems for motorists.
"But it looks like any pockets of heavier snow should be fairly brief, so it might be one of those cases where you can barely see across the road, and then two minutes later you might see the sun comes out, and then again, it starts to snow pretty hard."
Schuster said things are expected to clear-up Thursday night, followed by some warmer temperatures in the low double-digits for Easter weekend.
He said the temperature in Sarnia nearly hit 20 C, 68 F, Tuesday, but wild swings aren't uncommon at this time of year.
"You can get a couple of days where it's 15 C, 20 C, and the surprise, you have a few days when it's cold. This is the time of year where it can definitely oscillate from one extreme to another."
