More COVID-19 vaccine is to arrive in Sarnia-Lambton in the next two weeks as the area's active case count continues to trend higher.
The county's Emergency Control Group said Lambton's Immunization Task Force will receive three shipments of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. The unquantified shipments will be allocated to other Phase 1 priority groups, and second doses will be given to those who have already received their first doses.
Lambton Public Health said as of Wednesday February 17, 1,158 initial doses had been administered to long-term care, high-risk retirement home and Indigenous Elder Care residents. The province's directive that the 80-plus age demographic be included in Phase 1 has added 5,800 residents to Lambton's initial group estimate of 12,000. In the meantime, the COVID-19 case count in Sarnia-Lambton is nearing 2,000.
The health unit reported 12 new confirmed cases of the virus in its update Friday, for a total of 1,993 since the end of March.
Resolved cases are up five at 1,852, the death toll is unchanged at 46, putting the active case count at 95 up from 88 on Thursday.
There are six workplace and institutional outbreaks. The outbreak declared on January 8 at Twin Lakes Terrace has ended. One resident at the Murphy Road long-term care home died and a total of 18 residents and six staff tested positive.
The Lambton Kent District School Board website no longer shows any cases at Forest's North Lambton Secondary School. There had been four involving students. There are still two positive student cases at Great Lakes Secondary School in Sarnia.
Bluewater Health had two positive patients in hospital Friday.
