Lambton COVID immunization continuing after second Moderna shipment arrives

Lambton Public Health is administering its second shipment of COVID-19 vaccine this week.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade told reporters Monday that another 600 Moderna doses arrived Friday.

"So that shipment is going to go directly out to our long-term care and high-risk retirement home residents," said Ranade. "So that will be the focus of our vaccination efforts this week."

About 500 people in the initial priority group were inoculated with the first shipment.

Dr. Ranade said they're expecting another small shipment of 100 doses in the coming days.

"I'm hoping with those 700 doses that we can cover all of the remaining high priority which is the long-term care, and high-risk retirement home residents, as well as Elder Care institutional residents and staff. And then as more vaccine comes, we'll be able to immunize the remaining groups in that first priority which is the staff and the essential caregivers, unless there's a change in the province's priority or direction around that."

The provincial government set a new deadline of Wednesday, February 10, for long-term care and high risk retirement home residents to have their first doses.
