Icebreaking to control flooding in the St. Clair River was temporarily suspended Friday because of strong winds.
The St. Clair Township Fire Department said operations will resume when conditions allow.
The Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Griffon was on standby for flood control and shipping at Windsor, while the cutter Samuel Risley was on patrol at Port Lambton where an ice jam caused flooding concerns earlier in the week.
The Risley was to advise when conditions had improved enough to allow icebreaking to continue.
Both the US Coast Guard cutters, Bristol Bay and Neah Bay, returned to Algonac Michigan, to wait out the weather.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority extended its flood watch Friday. It said the St. Clair River continues to experience an ice plug from its southern reach to north of Sombra.
