Stolen vehicle recovered from golf course pond in St. Clair Township

A stolen vehicle was found partially submerged in a pond at a St. Clair Township golf course Monday morning.

Lambton OPP Cst. Jamie Bydeley said they have yet to identify any persons of interest in the matter, but the Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) will be processing the pickup truck for evidence.

While this incident was deliberate, Bydeley said it does serve as a reminder that "no ice is safe ice" and any activities on the ice could end in disaster.

Bydeley said while Lambton OPP didn't receive any ice related calls in January, Chatham-Kent OPP responded to two separate incidents of people stranded on an ice flow Saturday.

In both cases, the people involved were transported to safety without incident.

Three people were air lifted to safety from Lake St. Clair January 30, after becoming stranded on the ice. Others in the group managed to return to shore on their own.

Bydeley said anyone considering venturing out on ice covered bodies of water should use extreme caution.
