The new warden of Lambton County is optimistic things will improve in 2021 but also believes some of the biggest challenges of the COVID pandemic are yet to come.
Kevin Marriott said 2020 certainly presented a challenge we've never dealt with before.
"They did deal with it in 1918, but this being a whole new generation, we only heard about people that dealt with it back then, so it's a whole new world for everybody to deal with."
Marriott said as bad as the pandemic has been in Ontario, things would have been a whole lot worse if people didn't do their part to slow the spread of the virus.
Looking ahead to 2021, Marriott said he's concerned that people are getting worn out from what they need to do and getting a bit complacent.
"As well, when the news came out about the vaccine, I think there was a certain percentage of the people that were getting even more complacent. But I think that the next three months could be the worse there is yet."
Marriott said that he's looking forward to a return to normal, sometime in 2021, and that we need to encourage everybody to be happy with what you have.
"I think we just need to go back to the basics. Our grandparents were isolated, you know, and I think actually people can be better for it if they're home -- I know I'm happier being home if it means I'm healthy in the long run."
