A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Corporation of the City of Sarnia after five employees tested positive for the virus.
Human Resources spokesperson Dale Mosley said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that two of the employees are Sarnia Transit office staff, two work at city hall on Christina Street and one is a public works employee.
Mosley said the city "quickly and diligently implemented extra health and safety measures to enhance our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among staff and throughout the community."
All city hall staff and the administrative staff at Sarnia Transit and public works were told to work from home for the remainder of the year December 19 after two employees received positive COVID-19 results.
A deep clean of the various work locations has also been carried out.
He said the city will continue to follow the guidance and recommendations of Lambton Public Health and the Provincial Workplace Outbreak Guidelines.
Mosley said city hall remains closed, however services are available online, over the phone and by email during business hours.
Residents who need to get in contact with staff can contact customer service via email at [email protected] or by filling out an online form. Residents who call customer service are asked to leave a voicemail so that staff can respond during business hours.
