After a surge of 40 new cases in Sarnia-Lambton over the weekend, the COVID-19 upswing eased a little Monday.
Lambton Public Health, in its daily update, reported six new cases for a total of 523. Recoveries went up one at 429, deaths were unchanged at 28, which means the number of active cases increased by five to 66.
Since Monday, December 14, Sarnia-Lambton has recorded 76 new cases.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said the recent increase locally is unprecedented.
"Lots and lots of these cases are coming from social gatherings, either workplace functions or social outings with social groups in the community, recreational sports leagues, etc.," said Ranade. "There was also a significant set of cases from a social gathering linked to a meat raffle."
Another outbreak was reported for a total of seven. There is one long-term care outbreak at Trillium Villa and six workplace outbreaks.
Bluewater Health reported one positive patient in hospital Monday and the number of patient deaths was unchanged at 19.
