A hybrid approach to voting, including the reintroduction of paper ballots, is recommended for Sarnia's 2022 municipal election.
Mayor Mike Bradley said council will consider a total of nine recommendations Monday.
"There has been a committee struck that's been working very hard over the last number of months," said Bradley. "They've come back with what I think is a very reasonable package and I think it reflects, in general, the public mood from the last election. On election day it would be a paper ballot, the most safe form of voting in the world, and in the days leading up it would be online voting."
It's also recommended council eliminate telephone voting.
"It did not go very well in the last election, and it wasn't very functional, and many people just didn't use it, or if they did use it, they ran into problems. But I also think again, the key is to have a functional election and to make sure that it appeals to everyone so that no one is denied a vote because they don't like technology. In this case, you'll have seven days of online voting and then on election day it would be the paper ballot."
Council will also consider having no regular meetings during election campaigns unless an emergency session is needed.
