Reason for optimism in 2020 United Way campaign

The 2020 Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is about $200,000 behind last year's pace, but there is reason for optimism moving forward.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've been making up some ground lately to get to their $1.9 million needs target.

"Two or three weeks ago, we were about $30,000 or $40,000 more behind," said Brown. "So, we're catching up. The direct mail is coming in well, and a lot of employee campaigns with matching dollars seem to be going well. The need is actually greater today than it was before. We're seeing more and more need for basic services like food, clothing, shelter, mental health, and a variety of others."

Brown said employee campaigns at Reliance Home Comfort, and INEOS Styrolution both exceeded their goals.

He said NOVA completed a successful pizza fundraiser on the weekend, and the LCBO wrapped up their Give-it-to-Till campaign.

Entering week six, the agency has raised about 35 per cent of its target.
