United Way campaign steady despite pandemic

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is up nearly $100,000 from last week.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've now raised $610,000 or 32 per cent of the $1.9 million target.

He said they're still behind last year's pace but things look encouraging, despite the pandemic.

"We're still $200,000 behind last year's pace but this time last week, we were $220,000 behind so we're narrowing the gap a little bit so we're happy about that," said Brown. "We've had some campaigns that have finished up over last year. Reliance Home Comfort flew by their $6,000 goal and are somewhere around $10,000 which Reliance will match, and INEOS Styrolution also surpassed last year's target."

Brown said so far 11,000 people have donated to the campaign.

He anticipates they'll need about 4,200 donors by the end of the year to reach their goal.

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 18 agencies providing 36 community programs and services.
