Sarnia police are warning the public about a scam that involves the service and the city courthouse.
Police said the scammer tells victims that their personal information has been compromised and they need to call a certain number back, which is actually the court office number.
Police believe if you call back within a very short period of time, the scammers are still holding your line and will ask for personal information like your full name, date of birth, and social insurance number.
If you don't call back within that period of time or they lose the hold on your line, then the call actually goes through to the courthouse.
Police said the scammers are identifying themselves as officer Davis or officer Hall, neither of whom are members of the service.
Police ask the public not to call back and say no one should be calling you out of the blue asking for personal information.
