Thunderstorms brought flooding rain and intense lightning that caused a widespread power outage Sunday morning.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton as a line of heavy storms rumbled across the area in advance of a cold front.
The city received about 35 millimetres, nearly an inch-and-a-half of rain, and a lightning bolt hit a utility pole in the north end at about 7:30 a.m., knocking out power to about 7,000 customers in the Rosedale, High Park and Tree Streets area. Bluewater Power had service fully restored by around 9:45 a.m.
The heavy rain caused some flooding and ponding on area roads.
