A swimmer in distress was rescued by a sailor under the Blue Water Bridge Thursday afternoon.
Point Edward Fire and Rescue responded to a distress call in the St. Clair River just before 4 p.m.
The fire department said when they arrived, someone on a sailboat in the area had already thrown the individual a life jacket and had tried to provide help with a rope.
The swimmer was able to get out of the water safely and was assessed by Lambton EMS on shore.
The volunteer fire department said the sailor's quick actions helped prevent a tragedy.
They're reaching out to thank the sailor and return the life jacket.
The individual is asked to call the fire hall at 519-337-9911.
