Heat wave to continue through the week

The hot and humid conditions are expected to stick around all week.

Daytime high temperatures in excess of 30 C with humidex values in the high 30s to low 40s are expected with overnight lows near 20 C providing little relief.

heat warning is still in effect for Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement on Monday morning due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality.

The national weather agency said sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations Monday afternoon resulting in elevated pollution levels.

Moderate risk air quality health index (AQHI) values are expected throughout the day with the potential for short-term high-risk values in the afternoon.

We're reminded to limit our time outdoors, and avoid strenuous activity.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with preexisting conditions such as asthma, are especially at risk.

A slightly cooler airmass may move into the area this weekend, however, the weather agency said there is considerable uncertainty.

Aside from the chance of isolated thunderstorms in daytime heating, there's little rain in the forecast until Saturday.

St. Clair Township Fire Department has issued a notice to all residents given the very dry conditions.

The township said all burn permits are suspended, but small campfires are still allowed at this time.
