Power outage, road closures for transport of NOVA boilers

NOVA Chemicals will be doing a pair of slow-moving equipment deliveries during the overnight hours on Saturday and Sunday.

The company said a convoy of vehicles will help transport two large boilers from the Courtright Supply Dock to the future site of its new polyethylene plant on Rokeby Line.

The deliveries are expected to happen between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. each morning.

Residents are being advised of staggered road closures and possible delays along the route.

It runs from the Courtright Supply Dock, south on St. Clair Parkway to Courtright Line, east on Courtright Line to Highway 40, north on Highway 40 to Rokeby Line, and east to 804 Rokeby Line.

NOVA said it's working with Hydro One to lift power lines along the route. Around 500 residents in the Courtright area will experience a power outage for the duration of the moves which are weather permitting.

Over the past decade, NOVA Chemicals has invested nearly $1.2 billion into its manufacturing facilities in St. Clair Township.

The company's Corunna cracker is also being expanded to provide additional ethylene feedstock.

The start-up of the expanded facilities, costing approximately $2.2 billion, was initially targeted for late 2021.
