United Way taking applications for federal funding for charities

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way has started another fund to help those more vulnerable cope during the COVID-19 crisis.

The organization has received $334,000 in federal funding to assist charities who support seniors, veterans, single mothers, persons with disabilities, newcomers and other marginalized communities.

Executive Director Dave Brown said the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) provides support for groups who've had to adapt their front-line services because of the pandemic.

"We have an RFP [Request For Proposal] process so any charitable organization that has a registered charity number can apply," said Brown. "They simply go to our website, www.theunitedway.on.ca, and there's information on the ECSF right there as well as a link to the form. We encourage any charitable organization throughout Sarnia-Lambton to apply."

In the meantime, Brown said the Sarnia-Lambton Compassion Fund is still taking RFP's from local charities struggling to keep up with the increase in demand.
