Although it's being run a bit differently this year, submissions are now being accepted for the Lambton Youth Short Film competition.
Students are asked to file their movies electronically for the sixth annual event due to COVID-19 concerns.
Films can be up to three minutes long. Categories include comedy, documentary, Franco Fier, Mino Bimaaddiziwin, and animation.
Lambton Film and Food Festival (LaFFF) steering committee member Scott Ferguson said a record 23 films were entered last year.
"There might be a larger number of submissions this year," said Ferguson. "So far, we've had teachers in Forest and Sarnia asking us if this is going to go ahead. Some students had films ready before COVID-19 even affected us. So, there were films on the way. With students at home, we're hoping for even more films."
Ferguson said there are cash prizes totalling up to $2,000 thanks to groups like cineSARNIA and the Kiwanis and Optimist clubs of Forest.
He anticipates the youth shorts will be available online from Friday, May 22nd, until late on Sunday, May 24.
The public is invited to watch them and vote for their favourite. A viewing party will be held once the ban on social gatherings has been lifted.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 15, 2020 at 4 p.m.
