Cocaine and fentanyl seized at Blue Water Bridge

Over 80 pounds of suspected cocaine and fentanyl were seized early Friday at the Blue Water Bridge from the cab of a truck destined for Canada.

U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers examined a truck, hauling a shipment of flavouring syrup from California, at around 2 a.m. April 17. They were inspecting commercial vehicles leaving the U.S. from Port Huron.

It's alleged the Canadian driver, a member of the CBP's Trusted Traveler Program, became visibly shaken during the exam.

In a media release, CBP said officers found several bricks of the drugs, and placed the driver under arrest.

Director of Field Operations Christopher Perry commended the work of the officers.

"CBP officers, working to keep the nation’s economy moving, stopped this shipment of illegal drugs from reaching its destination," he said. "I am grateful for their vigilance and attention to detail in this interception."

The suspect is facing federal prosecution for the exportation of illegal drugs.
