Fire department assisting with Victoria Hall repairs

Work is underway to strengthen the aging stained glass rose window panels at Victoria Hall on Greenfield Street in Petrolia.

On Tuesday, The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department used its new ladder truck to get up to the clock tower windows and obtain a pattern of each section.

They'll be transferred to 3M clear shatterproof adhesives and applied to each panel.

Petrolia Director of Facilities Dave Menzies said this method was the best way to maintain the integrity, durability, and look of the windows which are cracking.

"The windows were custom-made about 28 or 29 years ago," said Menzies. "It's very costly to replace them so this is the best alternative to prolong the useful life of those windows without taking away any of the cosmetic look for the residents when they look up at the clock tower."

Menzies said the adhesives will be installed on the panels throughout the day Wednesday.

It's expected to get underway at 8 a.m. and last for about eight hours.

To apply the product to the west windows, members of the fire department's trained repelling team will be scaling the outside of the tower.

Access to Victoria Hall will be maintained. Town Hall and Victoria Playhouse Petrolia Box Office operations won't be affected.

The ladder truck will respond to any service calls as needed.
