Point Edward pursuing sports hall of fame

Work is underway to establish a Point Edward Sports Hall of Fame.

Village CAO Jim Burns said it would be nice to highlight accomplishments.

"We've been contacted by a couple people in the community that have gone around to different arenas throughout the province, and they see in these arenas they have walls of fame," said Burns.

He said they've suggested the village have one too, and council agreed.

Burns said several athletes from the village have done notable things that deserve recognition.

"I know there's been a few NHL players, figure skating is a big activity in Point Edward with Michael Marinaro, there's lots of baseball teams that have had success, there's hockey teams."

Burns said four or five people have signed up to be on the sports hall of fame committee so far.

"People that are willing to put some time into developing criteria, developing the proper way of acknowledging people at the arena itself, whether we put up plaques or an electronic version so that there's a video playing on a continuous loop on a TV so it's a bit more interactive."

Anyone else interested in joining is asked to email Jim Burns at jburns@villageofpointedward.com.
