A warning about a sales scam in Ontario has prompted Sarnia police to offer some tips to homeowners.
Cst. Nelson Amaral said there have been reports of individuals claiming to be with Google, selling products door-to-door in other jurisdictions.
Amaral said although there haven't been any complaints locally, he still advises residents to familiarize themselves with the Consumer Protection Act.
And if you're suspicious of a salesperson or their tactics, call police.
"One thing to keep in mind is to never feel obligated to open the door," said Amaral. "If a person does not leave after you've told them you're not interested then we encourage you to call police. Always ask for photo identification and get the name of the person and the business, make sure that information matches any paperwork and don't feel obligated to sign a contract on the spot."
As of May 1, 2018, certain products and services can no longer be sold or marketed door-to-door, including duct cleaning services, furnaces, water heaters and other water treatment devices.
