With the temperature forecast to rise to double digits Monday, there's no chance of a white Christmas in Sarnia this year.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell said "we'll be considerably above normal for the few days prior to Christmas."
Sarnia's Sunday forecast called for a high of 8 C, 46 F, rising to 10 C, 50 F, Monday, 6 C Tuesday and 7 C, 45 F, on Christmas Day Wednesday. The normal high for this time of year in the Sarnia area is 0 C, 32 F.
"The prospect of a white Christmas in Sarnia is pretty much slim to nil," Kimbell said Friday. "But east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, I'd say there's still a pretty fair chance that some [snow] will be on the ground by Christmas day."
Winter officially arrived at 11:19 p.m. Saturday night.
Kimbell said the first part of the season will have a roller coaster effect with fluctuating temperatures.
He said the long range outlook has no clear signal but it's a sure bet there'll be periods of sustained cold with snow and lake effect flurries.
