UPDATE: Environment Canada has ended the snow squall warning for Sarnia-Lambton as of 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
------------
North and east Lambton County could be impacted by snow squalls off Lake Huron Wednesday.
A snow squall watch for Watford, Pinery Park and east Lambton issued by Environment Canada Tuesday was upgraded to a warning Wednesday morning.
Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres are possible by Thursday morning.
The national weather agency says strong northwest winds gusting to 50 kilometres an hour will result in blowing snow as well.
The snow squalls are forecast to weaken late Wednesday evening and move north of the area.
Motorists should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and reduced visibility .
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) issued a flood watch Tuesday, warning that a large low-pressure system will bring high winds and waves.
Strong northwest winds with gusts possibly exceeding 70 kilometres per hour will begin early Wednesday morning and continue through the day before diminishing in the evening.
The ABCA said gusty winds, combined with near record-high water levels on the lake, may result in flooding and erosion problems along the shoreline.
While the winds will not be as strong as they were in storms earlier this fall, the authority expressed concern that the duration of the event could approach 24 hours.
Freezing spray is expected to create dangerous walking conditions along the shoreline, and flooding of low-lying coastal areas is likely as well as continued erosion of lakeshore bluffs.
Residents and municipal officials are reminded to stay well back from breaking waves, and also keep away from top-of-bluff areas during and after the storm.
