Phase-out of plastic bags includes Petrolia and Plympton-Wyoming

The towns of Plympton-Wyoming and Petrolia are the latest municipalities to do away with plastic bags for yard waste.

In Plympton-Wyoming, plastic bags were banned as of November 1, 2019 and yard waste must now be placed in paper bags or a bin marked with an X. Residents can also take their yard waste to the City of Sarnia's compost side on St. Andrew Street. Proof of residency is required.

Petrolia Mayor Brad Loosely said town council voted to move to the exclusive use of paper bags starting next year.

"It will go into effect in January 2020," said Loosely. "So starting next year for yard waste, leaves and limbs they will have to use paper bags. We will not accept the plastic bags."

Plastic bags for yard waste were banned during the summer in St. Clair Township and Sarnia.
