Damaged vehicle leaves trail for police following hit-and-run

An obvious trail of evidence led Sarnia police to a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run Thursday morning that damaged two parked cars.

Cst. John Sottosanti said at around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to several calls about a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Lansdowne Avenue and Lorne Crescent.

He said a light coloured mini-van slammed into a parked vehicle, driving it into another parked in front of it.

"The suspect vehicle left the area with a front passenger tire pretty much ripped off. The car was travelling and scraping up the road, causing sparks, and it travelled all the way from Lansdowne Avenue to the north end onto Fairlane Avenue," said Sottosanti. "People were following it and calling it in, so when the officers got to the area they saw the scrape marks on the ground, which were like bread crumbs, and they followed it right to the driveway where they found the driver."

A 31-year-old man is charged with failing to remain at the scene, driving while suspended and obstructing police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cst. Sottosanti said any witnesses are asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service.
