Some 1,400 students at Sarnia's St. Patrick's High School took part in a mock federal election vote on Monday morning.
Teacher Blake Morrison said students received a replica ballot and were able to vote for any of the six local candidates.
He said it's a great way to get the kids involved and teach them about the importance of democracy.
"We've [been] involved in this weeks, if not months, before the actual election day," said Morrison. "We have students that role play and go into classrooms and present the platforms of the six candidates so that our students here have some idea as to what the positions are of the political candidates running for office."
Morrison said they've also conducted mock municipal and provincial elections in the past.
He believes the experience could entice students to vote when they're legally able to, when they may not have otherwise considered it.
Meanwhile, more than 7,300 students across the Lambton-Kent District School Board cast mock votes last week as part of Student Vote Canada 2019.
Students from 53 of the school board's 64 elementary and secondary schools took part in the Elections Canada sponsored initiative.
The mock vote results will be kept confidential until Tuesday, after Monday's official vote.
Polls are open from 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
