Imperial tower lift complete (VIDEO)

A 180-foot fuel processing tower was lifted into place within the Imperial refinery Friday.

Vidal Street between Clifford Street and Kenny Street was closed at about 8.am. as a safety precaution and reopened before 1 p.m.

Imperial Public & Government Affairs Manager Kristina Zimmer said the 190-tonne tower was lifted by a 1,250-tonne capacity crane and then anchored in place.

The tower replaces one that collapsed in early April.

Luckily no one was hurt.

The new tower was built locally and moved earlier this week from Alliance Fabricating on Chester Street to the refinery.
