Firefighters from Forest, Arkona and Thedford responded to a barn fire on Rawlings Road at around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Fire Chief Lawrence Swift said the cause is still under investigation.
"We were on a property with multiple farming structures," said Swift. "There was a single structure that was destroyed, but the exposure to the structures around were safe."
Swift said early estimates put the damage at around $400,000.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
