Sarnia native wins silver for Canada

Sarnia native Priscilla Gagne won Canada's first medal at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.

The 33-year-old won the silver medal in the para judo 52-kilogram category, on day one of competition Saturday.

This is the second silver medal for Gagne. She won in 2015 at the Parapan Am Games in Toronto.

In a release, the Minister of Science and Sports Kirsty Duncan congratulated Gagne on her win.

"Canadians from coast to coast to coast are filled with pride and admiration at Priscilla's incredible talent, drive and strength as we celebrate this impressive moment in her sport career. She is a true inspiration for all Canadians," said Duncan. "I wish our Canadian athletes much more success as the competition continues in Lima."

The 2019 Parapan American Games run until September 1 in Lima, Peru.
