Comedic twist to 2019 hospital foundation gala

A Canadian comedian will headline this fall's Bluewater Health Foundation Gala.

The 7th annual event October 17 will feature Royal Canadian Air Farce favourite Jessica Holmes.

Foundation Executive Director Kathy Alexander said the mental health advocate is known for sharing her personal stories about depression through humour.

"She has written a book recently about her personal struggle with depression and she's going to be sharing that story with our guests and it's a comedy," said Alexander. "So, we're encouraging our guests to think outside the box, be fun, it's a little less formal than our previous galas. We have lots of surprises planned for that evening. We are transforming Huron Oaks into a comedy club if you will."

Alexander said money from this year's gala will support Mental Health and Addictions Services at Bluewater Health, specifically the establishment of an ACCESS Open Minds Centre in the community.

The Mike Weir Foundation has pledged to match donations up to $200,000 for the youth facility with the Chip-In-Challenge for Mental Health campaign, launched last month.

Gala tickets are $250 and available through the Bluewater Health Foundation.
